The past few years have shown the resurgence of girl groups, which had become largely defunct (save Girls Aloud) after the wave of girl groups from the ‘90s calmed. Within the past 5 years, however, we have seen a new wave of girl groups taking the stage, including R&B trio Stooshe, X Factor UK winners Little Mix and X Factor US finalists Fifth Harmony.
Joining these ranks is the 4-piece British group Neon Jungle, made up of Scotland native Shereen Cutkelvin (17), Japanese-born Asami Zdrenka (18), and Londoners Amira McCarthy (18) and Jess Plummer (21). The group was formed in early 2013 after the girls auditioned with their label, and began writing and recording songs soon after. Their covers of pop hits, such as Lorde’s Grammy award winning single “Royals,” and Miley Cyrus’ widely popular “We Can’t Stop” have also helped them garner praise and popularity.

Neon Jungle has already enjoyed success with their first two singles: Trouble, released in 2013 and Braveheart, released in 2014 placed at 12 and 4, respectively, on the UK charts. Additionally, the group has had the opportunity to perform at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show this past December, as well as supporting Jessie J during two dates of her Alive Tour. Their debut album is set to release in 2014.
